NFSP Level 2 Teacher Trainer
Qualifications & Responsibilities

NFSP Level 2 Teacher Trainers are the "workhorses" of the "Fishing in Schools" training structure.  They are the ones who "teach the teachers."

L2 Qualifications - general

Individuals wishing to volunteer to become NFSP Level 2  Teacher Trainers have these characteristic qualifications:

  1. They have had some form of "teaching" experience: as an actual school teacher, a coach, an instructor or mentor in an educational application.

  2. They have a genuine desire to teach others, especially young people, about the outdoors, and have the patience, understanding and wisdom to pass along knowledge and skills in a constructive, effective manner.

  3. They are generally experienced fishers, having spent many years actually fishing in a variety of locations, for a variety of fish, using a variety of angling methods.

  4. They are willing to learn how the NFSP curriculum is taught and agree to teach teachers in the same way, so that standardized instruction is provided to school students.

  5. They are willing to work as a volunteer.  (Some situations enable us to provide a contract payment for training sessions.)

  6. Level 2 Teacher Trainers are not employees.

Level 2 applicants, having been trained and certified, assume responsibilities that are best carried by someone with:

  • Willingness to commit their time.

  • Time to devote . . . due to the variable nature of the training (scheduling, location and number of attendees vary for each training session), CTTs must have flexibility in their personal/professional lives.

  • Several years of fishing experience . . . "veteran" is a word that often describes an NFSP Level 2 trainer.

  •  Teacher Trainers are not employees and receive no salary or benefits of any kind.

NFSP Level 2 Teacher Trainer responsibilities:

  1. Make application online to become an NFSP Level 2  Teacher Trainer.

  2. Attend a 2 day Personal Training session or take the NFSP CAST Online Course and pass an examination.

  3. Teach the teachers:

    1. Train teachers wishing to become Level 1 Teachers the NFSP Curriculum.  Personal Training sessions require preparation time prior to a one-full-day session and usually take place in a public school, using a classroom and gymnasium.

    2. Concurrent with educating teachers, as necessary, train/certify individuals to become NFSP Mentors using the same procedure as for Level 1 teachers.

    3. These one-day sessions follow a standardized format, concluding with the administration of a Certification Examination.  All necessary materials are provided by NFSP in advance of each session.

    4. Recordkeeping and reporting requirements include onsite applicant registration, administration/payment of registration fee (most attendees are pre-paid) and submission of post-session evaluation and "paperwork" to NFSP.
