"Great program, great program, students were engaged and excited to learn everyday."
The Fish America Foundation, via funding from the Brunswick Corporation, and administered by the Fishing Education Foundation/National Fishing in Schools Program, provided grants to 9 schools enabling them to participate in "Fishing in Schools" in 2022. Here's a recap of our collective efforts to bring angling education to these schools.
"I love this program. I have been waiting a long time to be able to do this with our school. The grant helped us to finally make this a reality."
Grant program description:
A grant of $25,000 was provided to the Fishing Education Foundation/National Fishing in Schools Program in September, 2022, which limited participation to 9 schools. Applications were restricted to 10 states. There were close to 100 applications received over the two week open period. The 9 schools, which were selected on a "first come, first served" basis, came from 6 of the 10 states. Schools were requested to complete their “Fishing in Schools” courses in their PE programs by November 30, 2022.

1. Illinois: Williamsburg Elementary School, Geneva, IL
"The program and equipment are great!
2. Indiana: Washington Elementary School, Fort Wayne, IN
"I think the curriculum/lesson plans are great. I especially like the online resources."
3. Minnesota: Lake City Public Schools, Lake City, MN
"The equipment and lesson plans are good. Due to our longer class length, we improvised the units, which worked well."
4. Minnesota: Pine Island Elementary School, Pine Island, MN

5. Missouri: East Prairie High School, Bertand, MO
"The curriculum and lesson plans are great."
6. Tennessee: Bobby Ray Elementary School, McMinnville, TN

7. Tennessee: Sweetwater Primary School, Sweetwater, TN

8. Washington: Lindbergh High School, Renton, WA
"Everyone in PE is extremely interested to teach fishing in our high school. The other teachers in the school are very excited for us to be teaching this."
9. Washington: Griffin School, Olympia, WA
"The program has been excellent. The kids LOVED it. Especially "catching" the FishTargets on the gym floor. We had many different games and contests using them. FUN!"
Highlights of program outcomes:
1. Number of students taught: The 9 schools taught a total of 1,112 students.
2. They were taught how to fish during their regular school day = averaging 124 students per school
3. Number of classes taught: 1 to 5 classes were taught per school - a total of more than 15
4. Teacher course rating: Rating on a scale of 1-10, the average rating, 8.4
