Welcome to "Fishing in Schools" NFSP Curricula
"I was very impressed with the lesson plans and activities. This course was definitely designed by educators who understand how a student learns. I'm very excited to start teaching this in the fall. Also, every email/question was promptly answered. Thank you."

- The “Fishing in Schools” team thanks you for your interest in the National Fishing in Schools Program. We hope it will prove to be a suitable and effective academic journey for your school or institution and its students.
- We appreciate your anticipated commitment to educating your students about the skill and pastime of angling. Together, we have the responsibility to teach youth about our natural resources with hopes that they, too, will become advocates for their protection, thereby ensuring future generations may also enjoy the lifetime benefits of angling and the environs in which fish flourish.
- STANDARDS COMPLIANT
- NFSP lesson plans are standards-based, having followed SHAPE National Standards. They are presented as in-school curriculum, so that despite what Mother Nature has in store outdoors, students can still be learning this valuable outdoor skill, indoors, in their school gym. Lesson plans were co-written by a team of professional educators (including a National PE Teacher of the Year) who are also passionate lifelong anglers. Lessons are designed to be compliant with 4 core content standards:
- • Physical Education
- • Science
- • Language Arts
- • Technology
- TWO COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULA
- • “Cast A Lure, Catch A Student” is NFSP’s spincast fishing curriculum - CALCAS Outcome Objectives
- • “Cast A Lure, Catch A Student” Curriculum Kit - CALCAS Equipment
- • “Cast A Fly, Catch A Student”, is the fly fishing version - CAFCAS Outcome Objectives
- • “Cast A Fly, Catch A Student” Curriculum Kit - CAFCAS Equipment
- Both curricula are designed to be taught for 10 days and offer more than 10 lessons in each. The lessons are easy to use and administer while offering flexibility to the needs of the teacher. With assessments built in to every lesson (and quizzes along the way), tracking your students learning and improvement is made easy.
- NFSP makes teaching the sport of fishing easy for educators. We provide a “turnkey” program that includes training, curriculum and equipment tailored to:
- Elementary School - grades K-5 * Middle School - grades 6, 7 & 8 * High School - grades 9, 10, 11 * College & University * Other educational programs & NGOs
- Both curricula have Lessons Plans that are arranged in a practical progression for you and your students. The curricula is designed to be dynamic and implemented over a two week period. With the availability of differentiated resources, an added feature of each curriculum is the flexibility to adapt it to meet the individual needs of each instructor.
- Realizing the depth to the content, and that every class, time availability and instructor is different, we understand you may not be able to cover all the content in each lesson. However, the activities, worksheets, assessments, quizzes, etc., are included to provide the opportunity to instruct using a well-rounded course, so each student is assured of learning and understanding the fundamentals of how to fish and hopefully gain an appreciation for the sport.
- May you and your students have endless days of healthy enjoyment of the outdoors and fishing.
